The Surrey Circular Cycle Challenge
• 20 friends and family
• 150 miles
• 3 days
Cycling through all the major towns of Surrey on 15th - 17th October 2009.
Our Aims:
• To raise awareness of Sands (Stillbirth & neonatal death charity) in Surrey and nationally.
• To raise funds towards Surrey Sands current hospital support project - To create or refurbish a bereavement suite in both Maternity and Special Care Baby Units (SCBU) in each of the 7 hospitals covered, starting with a brand new Forget-me-not suite at Royal Surrey County Hospital, where Ben was born. Any surplus funds once the project target has been reached will be used for the other worthy hospital projects.
• To pay tribute to Ben and the other 6500 babies lost during pregnancy, at birth or soon after during International Baby Loss Awareness Day, Thursday 15th October.
The cycle is definitely a challenge, 20 friends and family sharing a tough and very hilly 150 mile ride (on and off-road) in 3 days around all the major towns of Surrey in a collaborative effort to achieve our aims.
The cycle commences on October 15th 2009, International Baby Loss Awareness Day an internationally-recognised day for people who have lost a baby during pregnancy, at birth or soon after. A global ‘Wave of Light' is held at 7pm local time, whereby a candle is lit and left to burn for 1 hour in memory of all the babies that lit up our lives for such a short time. At the end of this first day we will be holding a communal candlelight ‘wave of light' event at 7pm under Tunsgate Arch in Guildford High Street.
Anyone wishing to wear a sticker to represent the Challenge and baby loss awareness may e-mail us at info@cycleforSands.co.uk. Suggested donations for stickers are 50pence.
